In the last week of the school year, alumnae who are currently at university or have only recently left, returned to school to meet with the Lower Sixth students to offer their advice about life at university. This informative session allowed students to informally chat with those only a few years ahead of them about the courses, the application process, the accommodation, as well as the societies and clubs open to them at university.
The seventeen returning alumnae represented eleven universities as far away as Edinburgh, Newcastle, and Durham, as well as nearer universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, Liverpool, and Southampton. The subjects studied covered a broad spectrum: business management, biomedical sciences, Chinese, French, Spanish, geography, history, liberal arts, marine biology, medicine, and natural sciences. One alumna spoke about her experience studying art and design at Kingston School of Art.
The event was a great opportunity for the St Helen’s students to talk to several alumnae and benefit from hearing about their experiences firsthand. Following the advice-giving session, the alumnae were treated to a school lunch in the Refectory and a tour of the relatively new Sixth Form Centre for those who had not seen it before.
Thanks again to the returning alumnae for their time and guidance at this annual event! Special thanks to those who have returned on previous occasions and joined us again this year.
