Myra Jones (1968 leaver)
"I was a ‘Scholarship girl’ in the 1960s through the direct grant scheme. I would not otherwise have been able to attend St Helen’s and my life may have taken a lesser path.
The School helped me to discover and develop my talents, and I gained an ability to express myself with a confidence which has never left me. By leaving a legacy in my will, I hope that another girl, sometime in the future, will be able to discover herself, as I did."
We know that providing for your loves ones will be your first priority, which is why we are so grateful and moved when alumnae feel deeply enough about the School to leave a legacy.
To show our appreciation for your generosity, we invite you to join the Per Severa Society, which recognises those who have made a gift to the School of £5000 or more, or who have left the School a gift in their will.
To leave a gift to the School, the information you will need is:
As the School is a registered charity in England and Wales, all UK legacies made to the School are exempt from Inheritance Tax and the value of any gift left in your will is deducted from the value of the estate before it is assessed for Inheritance Tax, reducing tax liability.
In addition, tax legislation in the UK provides for reduction in Inheritance Tax from 40% to 36% where 10% or more of the assessable value of an estate is left to charity. Your solicitor will be able to provide further guidance.
We understand you may wish to keep your intentions private, but if you have already left a gift to the school in your will then do please let us know by completing the Legacy Pledge Form below. This will allow us to thank you for your generosity now and invite you to become a member of the Per Severa Society.
If you have yet to write your will, but are thinking of doing so, then why not take advantage of the free will service outlined in the next section?
We know that organising your will can seem like a daunting task and this is why we have partnered with Bequeathed, whose MyIntent will writing service allows you to write your will for free. (This service is provided independently of St Helen and St Katharine; by participating in the will writing service, you become a direct client of the will provider.)
The process is very simple and includes free legal advice. You're not obliged to leave the School a gift in your will when using this service, but we would be so grateful if you chose to do so.
Thank you.
