We are delighted to share the happy news that alumna and former member of staff Frances Wassel got married to Barnabas on 12 May 2026. Having had a blissful 51-year-long marriage with her late husband Lewis, and after a further 14 years of widowhood, Mrs Wassell decided to marry her partner Barnabas.
‘We were ever so pleased that a handful of my former colleagues - and even some students of mine from St Helen and Katharine - were able to join us to celebrate on the day!’, commented Frances on her special day in May.
Frances has what is possibly the longest direct association with the school (as student and staff member) of anyone we know. She first joined the prep school when it was at Northernhay/Wantage House, then moved to The Manor, and finally joined the main school, leaving in 1958. She then returned to teach biology in 1962, where she taught several generations of girls until 1997, making her amongst the longest serving teachers we have had.
We send our very best wishes to the happy couple!
