Bethan Lee undertakes 'The Philly Gower Μid-Summer Μadness Μaggie's Fundraiser Appeal'

Bethan Lee (2000 leaver) is raising money for Maggie’s Cancer Support Centre in Oxford in memory of her friend and fellow St Helen’s Old Girl, Philly Gower who died in 2002. As part of Bethan's training for future long distance fundraising runs she will be running the whole of the Ridgeway this summer!

Bethan said ‘I am running in memory of Philly Gower who was a dear friend of mine and fellow pupil at St Helen’s from 1993-1997. Philly was an early leaver from St Helen’s after relocating to Scotland with her parents. She was a talented musician and had won an Organ Scholarship to Oriel College, Oxford.  Sadly she died of cancer in 2002 at the staggeringly young age 20. I am running in support of Maggie's centres and my Ridgeway challenge is actually inspired by the YPH school fundraiser Ridgeway walk back in 1996(!) and some very happy memories I have of it with Philly. I would love for Philly’s friends to take a look at my page and support my challenge in her memory.’

You can follow Bethan’s fundraising story directly on her Facebook page and links below. She’d love to hear from anyone who remembers Philly or indeed anyone who remembers the 1996 Ridgeway Challenge!
