On a sunny September morning, it was wonderful to welcome back recent leavers for the annual Old Girls’ Lacrosse Match played against the current Senior Teams. There was much hugging in the car park as Old Girls were welcomed by fellow students and staff. Amongst the Old Girls attending, who this year totalled 16 in number, were leavers from 2020 to 2025. Equally, it was a pleasure to welcome supporters to the event, with current and former parents, siblings, and dogs amongst the assembled crowd of twenty or so.
The three Senior Teams, made up of over 50 students from Year 11 to Year 13, rotated after each quarter, so that everyone had a chance to face the Old Girls in opposition. It was a lively contest with excellent play from all teams, but the goals scored kept mounting for the Old Girls. The returning captains, Ella Lovibond and Juliet Banks (2020 leavers), who have both represented England at Lacrosse, played sublimely for the Old Girls team providing stiff competition for the current students. Knowing that they were facing some England Lacrosse players made the Senior Teams feel better about their score line. One of the current students asked if her mother, also an alumna, could be persuaded to play next year to even things up a little. The teams all put on a fantastic display of skill and determination with the Old Girls finally emerging victorious with a 12-3 lead as the full-time whistle blew. Mrs Rollings, the new Head, was delighted to present the captains of the winning team with the Ottie Uden Memorial Trophy.
The match and the subsequent tea in the Atrium provided a fantastic opportunity for the alumnae to get together and reminisce about their sporting days at school whilst enjoying the famous cookies, and the morning was a wonderful chance for current students to test their skills against some fierce opposition. Thank you to all the alumnae and the many supporters who attended the event, and we look forward to seeing you at next year’s contest!
