For the Love of Lax, for the love of Ottie: The 2019 Old Girls' Lacrosse Match

Crowds gathered to watch teams competing for the Ottie Uden Memorial Cup
After the success of the 2018 Festival Of Lacrosse in memory of St Helen and St Katharine Old Girl, Ottie Uden (2014 leaver),  we were delighted to welcome around one hundred players, spectators, family and friends who joined together for our annual Old Girls Lacrosse Match. Players were competing for the second year, with current St Helen’s lacrosse squad members for the Ottie Uden Memorial Cup.

Our very own Mrs Keogh was reunited with some of the very first students she taught.

Two teams of currents students played hard in matches against two Old Girl teams. We were grateful to welcome back once again our very own pro umpire Old Girl, Sara Benbow who was delighted with the standard of the games this year.

2013 leaver Molly Scott caught the eye of our Archivist, Georgina Blackmore, when she brought her 2012 USA lacrosse tour sports bag prompting fond memories amongst her year group.

Helkat spirit was definitely in action throughout the afternoon – Old Girls forever being cheerleaders for one another.
Ultimately congratulations were given to the 2019 winners of the Ottie Uden Memorial trophy - the current SHSK Blues team!
A well-deserved lunch was waiting for the players in the refectory after the matches.

It was such a wonderful occasion - huge thanks to all who came for continuing to support one another, to laugh together and for sharing news about the many things you’re all doing  and of course for dusting off your lacrosse sticks and getting out on the field!
