At the beginning of Trinity term, 2013 leaver Immy Howard left Year 10 art students inspired and raring to start work on their own designs as part of a project to create wearable headpieces inspired by different cultures.
Immy who is a bespoke milliner and still lives locallly, specialises in the craft of traditional hat making. After leaving St Helen's Immy studied Costume Design at Arts University Bournemouth. She lovingly makes individual pieces for a range of clients as well as working at the Oxford Playhouse in their costume department. She spoke to the students about her favourite creations, her work in the theatre during the busy pantomine season and how she goes about choosing the materials for each of her designs. Since her first visit back to the Art Department at the start of term she has worked alongside Mrs McDonald, Head of Art, and the students to create some amazing head pieces through from initial concepts to completed creations.
The students proudly showed off their final pieces at the school annual art exhibition.
